South Mountain anchors a culturally rich heritage region, between two Maryland cities and four state borders. This outreach will transform the areas into a thriving “community of communities,” weaving 250 years of Pioneering Liberty into a living, connected experience.
This experience highlights the living heritage of our creative economy. Through coordinated gatherings, we’ll share assets, attract visitors, and strengthen educational and economic opportunities. Central to this effort is the Old South Mountain Inn, reborn as an Educational Asset and Tourism Center.

Frederick County nonprofits sit within the heart of our four-sector ecosystem – alongside government, business and industry, funders, and the communities we serve. This workshop highlights how nonprofits interact within the ecosystem and focuses on how to better meet the diverse needs of our 250,000+ residents.
This facilitated workshop will illuminate how each sector contributes, where connections are the strongest, where gaps exist, and how nonprofit can play core roles in catalyzing collaboration. We’ll explore collaboration models that could reduce competition and increase impact such as joint funding proposals, cross-sector coalitions, data sharing, coordinated service networks.
The workshop will focus on the areas of service of participating nonprofits.
What You’ll Walk Away With
· An ecosystem map of how government, industry/business, nonprofits, and funders interact to serve residents.
· Greater mutual understanding of overlapping areas of services
· Concrete set of cross sector initiatives
· An engaged cohort for ongoing collaboration
